Do Hard Things (Including Applying for That Job)

How to Apply for Job Resume Writing

Some people look at my life and think I'm brave. Or that I have grit. I'm not sure I agree with that 100%, but sure, sometimes that's applicable to where I am in life.

However, I'd say a lot of the time, I don't want to do hard things. I'd rather sit back and let life happen, even if I don't like the outcome. Or I'd rather have someone else do the hard stuff for me. I'm sure we all have that mentality at some stage in our lives. But really, we just have to bite the bullet, put ourselves out there, and hope for the best.

As one who tries to take my own advice, I did a hard thing recently (and no, it wasn't blogging) ... I submitted a resume for a national award (yes, those are a thing). I'm proud of my work, and I love working with my clients, but really? Could I even be in the same pool as people who have been in the industry for 20 years? Well, maybe not, but I have to try, right?

If you don't try, you won't win... or at least get nominated.

It's easy for us to assume we won't get the job, nomination, promotion, bonus (or in my life, that always elusive first date) before we even try. It's easier that way, isn't it? But what possibilities are we missing out on if we don't at least try? Who cares if you're up against people who have been doing it a lot longer than you have? It will only take one person to see what you're doing and give you a chance.

So, what job have you not applied for? What school application have you not submitted? Have you not done those things because you're really not qualified? Or are you just too scared? Something to think about.

And don't worry, I'll be reminding myself of this tomorrow... and the next day ... and the next.
